Jasmine Crook named SSAC Volleyball Player of the Week

ATLANTA -- Shorter freshman Jasmine Crook has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week the conference announced late Monday.
Crook, a native of Ohatchee, Ala., collects the first SSAC Player of the Week nod of her career after closing out the regular season with three exceptional performances in Shorter's wins over Brenau University, Bryan College and NCAA Division II University of Alabama-Huntsville.
Crook totaled 38 kills against just eight attacking errors for the week. She also added 13 total blocks and eight digs as Shorter ran its winning streak to five matches entering the SSAC Tournament, which begins Friday in Biloxi, Miss.
She had eight kills and five blocks in a 3-0 win over Brenau and eight kills (no errors), four digs and three blocks against Bryan College in a 3-0 sweep.
Crook's best match of the week, however, came in Shorter's regular season finale against Alabama-Huntsville, where she led Shorter to a dramatic 3-2 win with a career-high 22 kills on 39 attacks in addition to five blocks.
On the year, Crook's 343 kills lead Shorter and rank fourth in the SSAC.
Crook and the Lady Hawks (28-7), the No. 2 seed out of the SSAC East Division, open conference tournament play Friday at 4:30 pm ET against West Division No. 3 seed Mobile (24-13). The winner of that match will take on either 19th-ranked Spring Hill (36-0) or Brewton-Parker (12-17) in Saturday's 11 am ET semifinal.
The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8 pm ET.
