Volleyball routs Reinhardt, goes 5-0 for first time in school history

ROME -- The Lady Hawks volleyball team took win number five of the season in their home opener against Reinhardt University on Thursday night, beating the Eagles in three sets at the Winthrop-King Centre, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17.  

Shorter (5-0) sailed to a victory as Jasmine Crook led the team with 11 kills and Jordan Corder handed out 37 assists with 11 digs. Shorter held a 45-18 advantage in kills over Reinhardt (2-4) and had 40 assists to Lady Eagles' 18.

Shorter glided through set one against Reinhardt with multiple kills coming from freshman Tori Bradley and senior Jessica Cooper. Shorter raced out to a quick lead and finished with a 25-18 victory.

The Lady Hawks breezed through set two as well after jumping out to an early lead of 19-11. Reinhardt tried to rally, but failed at a comeback as Crook and Cooper recorded kills before freshman Anna Graham closed out the set with a kill off an assist by Corder.

Shorter used a 7-1 run in set three to overcome an early 13-12 deficit and take a 19-14 lead. Kills from Loren Olive, Jessica White and Cooper helped Shorter wrap up the match with Reinhardt and give the Lady Hawks their first 5-0 start to a season in program history.

The Lady Hawks finished the night hitting .211. Olive had nine kills, Bradley finished with eight kills and Tanequa Whitman completed the night with ten digs. Cooper hit a team-high .467 with eight kills and just one error.

Shorter next takes on Bryan College at Bryan on Sept. 7.
