Shorter Volleyball completes perfect run through Milligan Invite

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- The Shorter University volleyball squad improved to 4-0 on the season after taking out Freed Hardeman in its fourth and final match of the Milligan Mountain Madness Invitational, winning in four sets, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20.

Freshman Tori Bradley led Shorter with 15 kills, followed by fellow freshman Jasmine Crook with 13. Loren Olive had 16 digs with Tanequa Whitman and Meghan Weller each getting 13.

Shorter glided with ease through the first set with multiple kills coming from Crook, Bradley and Leslie Welch that put the Lady Hawks up 22-16. An error by Freed-Hardeman paired with a kill from Jessica Cooper and an assist by Jordan Corder polished off set one in a score of 25-16.

After dropping a tight 25-23 decision in set number two, the Lady Hawks responded by taking a nip-and-tuck third set.

The Lady Hawks quickly took a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of errors by the Lady Lions and kills from Crook. Shorter maintained the momentum as Olive and Crook came together to lead Shorter to a 25-21 victory and a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Lady Hawks went into the fourth set determined to close out the Lady Lions and take home their fourth win. Shorter jumped out to an early lead of 6-3 and behind several big kills from Bradley, held a 14-12 lead midway though the set.

Kills from Crook coupled with errors by the Lady Lions proved too much for Freed Hardeman and gave Shorter the win in game four, 25-20, ending the match.

Jessica Cooper aided with 12 kills as Crook added 11 digs. Jordan Corder had 47 assists as Shorter closed out the invitational with a win over a team that received votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Lady Hawks will return home to the Hill on Sept. 1 when they host Reinhardt University at 7 pm.
