KANSAS CITY -- Shorter University junior track star Tamala Daley has been named the NAIA's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week in an announcement made by the organization on Wednesday night.

Daley, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., and the reigning NAIA national outdoor runner-up in the long jump, showed out at the Ohio State Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, on Jan. 6. Her efforts earned her the second NAIA National Indoor Field honor of her career after she was previously selected for the weekly award on Feb. 9, 2011.

She finished fourth in the long jump with a jump that measured 18 feet, 11.25 inches against an invitational field packed with NCAA Division I competition including competitors from Ohio State, Ohio University and Wright State.

Daley's jump at Ohio State ranks No. 1 in the country so far this season. Daley and teammate Ashlie Stewartson, the reigning outdoor long jump national champion, rank 1-2 in the country in the event.

In addition to her strong outing in the long jump, Daley was Shorter’s second-best finisher in the 60 meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 7.88.

Daley and the Lady Hawks return to the boards on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 12 and 13, as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the UAB Blazer Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
