Women’s Tennis takes wins at AUM Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Lady Hawks took their first and second victories during the Auburn-Montgomery Spring Invitational in Montgomery, Ala., Friday and Saturday morning after an 8-1 victory over Campbellsville University and a 7-2 win against Xavier University.
Iesha Horton and partner Aurore Beltrando gave Shorter a win against Campbellsville's Jenna Sallee and Stacey Drew in the No. 3 doubles position in an 8-5 match.
Horton went on to win in the No. 5 singles position as well against Lady Tiger, Gleidys Salazar, in a landslide victory of 6-1, 6-0 with Horton losing only one of 13 games.
Beltrando also took a win for the Lady Hawks in yet another convincing victory for Shorter, garnering a victory of 6-3, 6-1 in her match against Lindy Charity, leading to Shorter's first win of the AUM Spring Invitational.
Shorter took the court once again Saturday morning against Xavier University, and walked away with their second win of the invitational, 7-2.
Candice Laurent paired with Aurelie Gaborit to secure a victory in the doubles No. 1 slot, 8-1, against Xavier's Amber Brown and Amanda Materre.
Gaborit also gave Shorter a win in the No. 4 singles position against Jordyn Goody, 6-1, 6-0 to propel the Lady Hawks to their second victory of the invitational.
The Lady Hawks take the court once again March 11 at 9 am in their final matchup of the AUM Invitational.
