No. 15 Lady Hawks defeat West Georgia, 9-0 in Carrollton

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- Shorter's No. 15-ranked women's tennis team improved to 5-1 overall with a 9-0 victory over NCAA Division II University of West Georgia on Wednesday in Carrollton.

The win, Shorter's fourth straight, was also the second of the season for the Lady Hawks over their future Gulf South Conference rival. The Lady Hawks also swept West Georgia 9-0 in their season opener back on Feb. 2 in Rome.

Shorter dropped just nine games total to the Wolves (1-3) throughout both doubles and singles competition.

Shorter won 8-0 decisions at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Aurore Beltrando and Iesha Holton teamed up to defeat West Georgia's Molly Olson and Raven Pugh at No. 1 while Alicia Gallard and Margot Vetter scored a perfect 8-0 win over Amanda Stewart and Kelly Arsenault at No. 2.

Quincey Mason and Katie Witmer played No. 3 doubles for Shorter and posted an 8-3 victory over West Georgia's Kelsey Bowman and Aubrey Biddle.

In singles, Shorter's No. 1 Candice Laurent set the tone with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Olson. Holton and Gallard wrapped up Shorter's victory with 6-0, 6-0 decisions at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

The Lady Hawks are back in action today, Thursday, Feb. 16, as they welcome Spelman to Rome for a 2:30 pm match.
