Anna Frazee tabbed NAIA National Softball Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY -- Shorter University freshman Anna Frazee has been named the NAIA National Softball Player of the Week in an announcement released by the organization on Tuesday evening.

It is the first national player of the week award for Frazee, Shorter's first-year third baseman from Ellijay, Ga., who earlier in the week captured her first Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week nod.

Frazee helped the Lady Hawks to four wins against SSAC foes last week -- including a sweep of rival and league favorite Lee University -- with exceptional offensive numbers and some late game heroics.

Against defending SSAC champion Lee, Frazee went a combined 4-for-6 with two runs, a double, a homer and four RBI as Shorter earned a crucial conference sweep of the then No. 7-ranked Lady Flames.

After going 3-for-3 with two RBI in a 6-0 rout of Lee in Game 1 of the doubleheader, Frazee hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth in Game 2 to complete Shorter's rally from a 3-0 deficit and secure the thrilling 5-3 win in extras.

In two games against Southern Wesleyan over the weekend, Frazee went 4-for-4 with four runs, another double, another homer and six RBI as Shorter swept the Lady Warriors, 12-1 and 10-0 in Central, S.C.

For the week, Frazee, who leads the Lady Hawks in both home runs (4) and runs driven in (24), went 8-for-10 with six runs, two doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI. She is hitting .382 with six doubles for the year.

Frazee and the Lady Hawks (18-8, 4-0 SSAC) host a pair of SSAC doubleheaders this weekend. Shorter welcomes Brewton-Parker College to the Alto Park Softball Complex on Friday, April 1 in a twin bill slated for a 5 p.m. start before hosting Columbia College (S.C.) on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
