Game Notes: WSOC seeks fourth straight win Thursday at Faulkner
By Matt Green
Lady Hawks (3-6, 3-1) at Faulkner (6-2-1, 4-1)
Thursday, Oct. 6 • 6 pm ET • Montgomery, Ala.
MONTGOMERY -- The Shorter women's soccer team will try for a fourth straight victory on Thursday evening when it travels to Montgomery, Ala., for a Southern States Athletic Conference tilt with Faulkner University at 6 pm ET. The Lady Hawks have shaken off an 0-6 start to the season with three straight wins -- all one-goal victories -- including a 2-1 triumph over then No. 21-ranked William Carey University last Saturday. Faulkner is off to an excellent start and is fresh off a 6-0 victory over Brewton-Parker on Oct. 1.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Shorter leads the all-time series with Faulkner 4-3, but hopes to avenge a heartbreaking 2-1 loss at home to the Eagles last season. Faulkner rallied from a 1-0 deficit with two goals in the final 14 minutes to stun Shorter 2-1 -- the game winning goal came with just one minute left in the match.
DYNAMIC DUO
Not surprisingly, Shorter's three-game win streak has come hand-in-hand with the emergence of the Lady Hawks' two All-Conference strikers from a year ago, Kelli Davis and Brandi Greenwald. Both Davis and Greenwald were held without a point through Shorter's first six matches -- all losses. In Shorter's last three games, however, the pair has combined for six goals and two assists. Davis scored the game winner against Spring Hill with 23 minutes left and Greenwald notched two goals and an assist in a 3-2 win over Belhaven. Each scored once in the upset of No. 21 William Carey and production from the pair is a must if Shorter hopes to challenge for a regular season SSAC title.
JACK OF ALL TRADES
Sophomore Aline Bez Tamiosso continues to punish opponents in a variety of ways. After scoring three of Shorter's first four goals of the season during a stretch when the Lady Hawks were struggling to put the ball in the back of the net, Tamiosso has taken a more distributive role in the last few matches. All five of her assists have come in Shorter's last four games as Tamiosso's speed and skill on the ball have begun to create golden opportunities for others. Tamiosso has four goals and five assists on the year to lead the team with 13 points.
