Women's Soccer places four on All-Conference squads
NORCROSS, Ga. - Senior Rachel Wood, junior Brandi
Greenwald and sophomore Taylor Hays were named to the Southern
States Athletic Conference All-East Division team to highlight
Shorter's selections to the annual All-SSAC squads released by the
league on Monday afternoon.
Kelli Davis garnered SSAC All-Freshman honors and eight Lady Hawks earned SSAC All-Academic recognition: Hays, Kayla Bell, Emily Hanson, Adrian Hicks, Mary Kate Lollar, Lynde Pas, Samantha Stephens and Alex Yancy.
It was the first All-Conference honor for Wood, a native of Bolton, England who shook off injuries during her first two seasons with the Lady Hawks to turn in her most productive season in 2010.
Wood led Shorter and ranked seventh in the SSAC with nine goals while also ranking eighth in the SSAC with 21 points. She notched her first career hat trick in a win over Tennessee Wesleyan and led the Lady Hawks with three game winning goals.
Wood finishes her career as Shorter's third all-time leading goal scorer with 13 and ranked third all-time in assists with 12.
Greenwald was named to an All-SSAC team for the second time in her career. The transfer from Brewton-Parker College earned second team All-Conference honors as a freshman with the Lady Barons in 2008.
The Kingston, Ga., native ranked third on the team with five goals while leading the team with six assists. She scored the Lady Hawks' lone goal against rival Berry College, assisted on two of Wood's three goals against Tennessee Wesleyan and also scored a goal in a win over her former team.
Hays made her first appearance on the SSAC All-East Division squad.
The goalkeeper from Jacksonville Beach, Fla., set a school record with six shutouts - Hays also owns the program's record for career shutouts with eight - while starting all 19 matches for the Lady Hawks. Her 1.17 goals against average ranked fifth in the SSAC, a stat made more impressive by her 84 saves, which is the highest single season total in Shorter history.
Hays' 155 career saves rank second all-time.
Davis earned a spot on the All-Freshman team after an exceptional year up top for the Lady Hawks.
Davis, who hails from Peachtree City, Ga., ranked second on the roster with six goals and added five assists. She scored twice in Shorter's win over Columbia College and went through a stretch at the midpoint of the season when she scored four goals in four games.
Davis scored a pair of game winning goals, with her last coming in Shorter's thrilling 1-0 win over Brenau University in its final home game of the regular season.
