Shorter Women's Soccer Game Notes

ROME, Ga. - Seeking its first victory of the 2010 season, the Shorter University Lady Hawk soccer team returns to the pitch Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. when it hosts Southern States Athletic Conference West Division member Faulkner University at Ben Brady Field.

Shorter, which dropped a tough 2-1 decision to No. 13-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery in Saturday's season opener, faces a second straight formidable SSAC West foe in the Eagles, who received four votes in the NAIA Women's Soccer Preseason Top 25 Poll.

The Lady Hawks (0-1) are not only in search of their first win of this season - they are also in the hunt for the first win of the Jennifer Colley era.

Shorter is 4-2 all-time against Faulkner despite falling 4-2 in last season's matchup with the Eagles in Montgomery, Ala. The Lady Hawks last beat Faulkner on Sept. 13, 2008, scoring a 3-1 victory in Rome behind two goals from all-time leading scorer Pauline Van Der Henst and and another from former All-SSAC selection Tamar Watson.

There is a streak on the line for the Lady Hawks tomorrow afternoon - Shorter has never lost a game on the new Ben Brady Field, which was completed last fall and hosted a pair of matches on both the men's and women's side at the conclusion of the 2009 campaign.

The Lady Hawks are 1-0-1 on the new surface, having played to a 2-2 draw against Bethel College in their first-ever match at Ben Brady before securing a 3-0 shutout of Southern Wesleyan University in the quarterfinals of last year's SSAC Tournament.

No Shorter team has ever lost at Ben Brady - the men's team is a perfect 2-0 at the on-campus facility.

The Lady Hawks got strong play from a host of new faces in Saturday's season debut, and hope to build upon that momentum against Faulkner.

Freshman Kelli Davis, a native of Peachtree City, Ga., that led Starr's Mill High to the 2010 state championship last spring, scored her first career goal against the Lady Senators, a strike that served as an equalizer in the 57th minute.

Fellow freshman Jessica Wright played nearly 90 minutes in the midfield and was solid in her first collegiate action while junior transfer Brandi Greenwald assisted on Davis' goal and consistently put pressure on the AUM defense from her forward position.
