CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Fresh off a 74-42 victory over the College of Coastal Georgia in its season opener on Tuesday night, the Shorter University women's basketball team travels to Cleveland, Tenn., this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12, for two games as part of the Lee University Invitational.
Shorter (1-0) will square off with Tennessee Temple University (0-4) at 6 pm on Friday before closing out the invitational on Saturday at 2 pm against Morris College (0-3) out of South Carolina.
The Lady Hawks, ranked 21st in the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll, made quick work of Coastal Georgia several days ago to open the season with a win for the third straight year.
Senior Brittney Smith paced Shorter with career-highs of 14 points and 16 rebounds and junior Shelby Farrer also notched a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. Allison Danner scored 12 points and Kelly Ellison dished out eight assists for Shorter, which held the Mariners to 26 percent shooting while holding a commanding 57-30 advantage on the glass.
Last season, Shorter dealt Tennessee Temple an 87-55 defeat while placing four players in double figures. Among Shorter's double-digit scorers was Farrer (14 points), Ellison (11 points, six assists) and Megan Queen (11 points).
Morris has already dropped two games this season to Southern States Athletic Conference teams, falling 73-61 to Emmanuel and 81-57 to Brenau.
