Eliud Ng'etich grabs SSAC Men's Runner of the Week honors

By Matt Green

ATLANTA -- Shorter junior harrier Eliud Ng'etich has been honored as the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Runner of the Week according to a release by the league late Monday.

Ng'etich, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, led Shorter's No. 2-ranked men's cross country team to a fifth-straight conference title with his individual championship performance last Saturday at the SSAC Championships in Clinton, Miss.

Ng'etich won his first SSAC championship by running a time of 25:32 on the 8k course at Choctaw Trails. He bested teammate Daniel Sorenson (25:35) by three seconds to claim the crown and led the Hawks to a near perfect performance of 18 points -- Shorter placed runners in the top four positions to run away with the team title.

Ng'etich's performance was truly dominant as he defeated the first non-Shorter runner by 35 seconds en route to the victory.

Shorter returns to the course this Saturday, Nov. 12, as it competes in the Viking Invitational hosted by Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.

The SSAC championship dealt the Hawks an automatic bid into the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19 in Vancouver, Wash. Shorter is one of the favorites to bring home what would be the school's first-ever cross country national championship.
