Game Notes: Men's Soccer travels to TWC Tuesday

Hawks (1-0) at Tennessee Wesleyan (1-0)
Tuesday, Aug. 30 • 5 pm • Athens, Tenn.
ATHENS, Tenn. -- Fresh off its dramatic season opening win over Montreat on Saturday night, the Shorter men's soccer squad will travel to Athens, Tenn., on Tuesday, Aug. 30 for a non-conference matchup with Tennessee Wesleyan College at 5 pm. The Hawks, who won their fourth straight season opener thanks to a last minute goal from freshman Neshaun Senior, hope to keep their undefeated record against Tennessee Wesleyan intact -- Shorter is 3-0 all-time versus the Bulldogs.
ALL-TIME
SERIES
Shorter leads the all-time series with Tennessee Wesleyan 3-0,
including last season's 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs at Ben Brady
Field on Sept. 7, 2010.
HOT START
Senior striker Garry Perks picked up right where he left off the
2010 season with a pair of goals in the season-opening win over
Montreat. Perks, who scored a career-high 12 goals last year, now
has 20 goals for his career and sits just one goal shy of Sebastian
Stihler's 21 on the Hawks' all-time goal scoring list.
STAN THE
MAN
Not lost in Shorter's 3-2 victory over Montreat on Saturday was
the incredible play of senior Stan Nizamutdinov, a natural defender
who sacrificed his normal starting spot on the back line to play in
goal for the first time in his career. Nizamutdinov delivered --
despite allowing two goals, Nizamutdinov stopped eight shots to
keep Shorter within striking distance.
A SENIOR'S
TOUCH
Freshman defender Neshaun Senior introduced himself to the Shorter
men's soccer program in a big way with his 35-yard rocket into the
top corner of the cage with just over a minute left that sealed the
win for the Hawks over Montreat. Senior's first career goal came on
his first career shot and only provided more evidence towards the
talent possessed by this season's freshman class, six of which
started the season opener.
