MONTREAT, N.C. -- The Shorter University men's soccer team kicks off the 2011 season on Saturday, Aug. 27 when it heads to Montreat, N.C., for a non-conference tilt with Montreat College beginning at 5 pm. The Hawks, owners of two consecutive double digit win seasons, are led by head coach Josh Severns, who enters his seventh season at the helm of Shorter's men's program.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Shorter leads the all-time series between the schools 1-0. The Hawks beat Montreat to open the 2009 season by a score of 4-1 in a game played in Rome on Aug. 22. Current Shorter senior captain Garry Perks scored the first goal of his Shorter career in that victory.

STARTING STRONG
Shorter has won three straight season openers dating back to a 2-1 victory over SCAD Savannah on Aug. 27, 2008.

UPWARD TREND
The Hawks have established themselves as one of the best in the Southern States Athletic Conference over the past three seasons, a run that began with a regular season conference championship in 2008. Over the past three years, Shorter is 15-5-2 in conference games and have posted back-to-back seasons of double digit wins in 2009 and 2010.

PERKED UP
Senior striker Garry Perks enters 2011 as Shorter's third all-time leading scorer with 18 goals in two seasons on the Hill. Perks notched a career-best 12 goals on his way to All-SSAC honors in 2010 and tied Shorter's single-game goals record with four tallies in a win over Truett-McConnell. He needs just four goals to move into second place on Shorter's all-time goal scoring list.

YOUNG AND RESTLESS
Shorter will once again unleash a youthful roster in 2011 packed with 11 newcomers and two players that enrolled last spring. The Hawks have four seniors, but will more than likely feature a lineup that oftentimes contains three, four, or even five freshmen.
