Golf Hawks place third at Indian Bayou Classic

DESTIN, Fla. -- Shorter University shook off an opening round 306 to post a second round team score of 287 and rally for a third place finish at the Indian Bayou Classic hosted by the University of North Alabama at the Indian Bayou Country Club in Destin, Fla.

Matt Youmans shot a 3-under 69 in Tuesday's second round to place 12th overall (77-69-146) and Shorter (593) finished in third behind tournament champion North Alabama (576) and runner-up Saint Leo University (583). All five of Shorter's competitors either bettered or equaled their Monday showings that left the Hawks in seventh after 18 holes.

Robert Prior shot 1-under 71 and finished in 14th (76-71-147). Oliver Larsson finished even par 72 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 77-72-149 and 23rd place finish.

Gabriel Cassinelli (76-76-152) and Patric Sundlof (80-75-155) placed 32nd and 55th, respectively, as Shorter's second round team total was the third lowest round of the tournament.

Columbus State University's Justin Grice outlasted Saint Leo's Nick Brothers in a playoff to take medalist honors. Grice and Brothers finished with identical two-round totals of 140.

The Hawks continue their preseason schedule on Oct. 17 and 18 when they travel to Savannah, Ga., for the SCAD-Savannah Invitational hosted by the Wilmington Island Golf Club.
