Arvid Bengtson earns second straight PING All-America honor

NORMAN, Okla. -- Shorter University senior golfer Arvid Bengtson has been named to the Golf Coaches Association of America PING All-America second team as announced by the organization last week.

Bengtson, a native of Sweden, earns his second straight PING All-America accolade after picking up first team honors in 2010 when he finished fifth at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships.

This season, Bengtson guided the Hawks to a No. 9 national ranking and a top 20 finish at the national tournament. He shot a four-day total of 304 (+20) and placed in the top 50 while serving as the experienced leader of a national tournament roster that featured three freshmen and a junior.

Bengtson pieced together an incredible 2010-11 season that included medalist honors at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships. He was named the SSAC Player of the Year prior to the conference championship tournament and did not finish outside of the top 10 in a tournament until the national championships.

Bengtson also won at the Lee Invitational in March and finished runner-up in Shorter's spring opener, the Coastal Georgia Invitational in St. Simons Island.

Bengtson landed on the GCAA PING All-South Region team as well, making him the only representative of the SSAC to earn All-Region honors.
