Hawks (4-3) at Edward Waters (2-5)
Saturday, Oct. 29 • 2 pm • Jacksonville, Fla.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Shorter University football team heads to Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a non-conference matchup with Edward Waters College at 2 pm.
The Hawks (4-3) are hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 35-10 loss at the University of the Cumberlands last Saturday that essentially eliminated Shorter from Mid-South Conference West Division title contention.
Edward Waters, meanwhile, is in search of its third win of the season and an end to its current two-game losing streak, which was extended in a 59-7 loss to Winston-Salem State this past weekend. The Tigers (2-5) last won on Oct. 8 in a 14-13 victory over Livingstone.
This is the first-ever meeting between Shorter and Edward Waters, which reinstated its football program in 2001 after a 34-year hiatus and won an SEAC championship in 2004.
Shorter is already 1-0 in the state of Florida this season. The Hawks thumped then No. 20-ranked Webber International 42-10 in their season opener back on Sept. 10. Edward Waters dropped a 24-14 decision to Webber International on Oct. 15.
After being held to season lows of 63 yards rushing and 167 total yards of offense last week in Kentucky, Shorter is anxious to take the field against an Edward Waters team that is giving up over 330 yards a game to opponents.
Shorter's defense is also chomping at the bit to make last week a distant memory after the unit gave up over 200 yards rushing and allowed a player to rush for over 100 yards for the first time all season. Edward Waters enters Saturday's game with a minus-7 turnover differential, something Shorter's aggressive and opportunistic defense hopes to take advantage of early and often.
Fans unable to make the trip to Jacksonville can catch all the action by tuning into 95.7 WATG-FM The Ridge or by accessing the live webcast available via the link on Shorter's athletics website. Coverage begins at noon with "Hawk Talk" followed by "The Phil Jones Show" at 12:30 pm. The pregame show with Jim Bojo and Matt Green begins at 1 pm.
