Sitton earns 2nd Mid-South Special Teams Player of the Week nod

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Shorter University's Jonny Sitton has been named the Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1, conference officials announced on Monday.
The sophomore transfer from the University of South Florida, picks up his second such award of the season after first earning Special Teams Player of the Week honors following Shorter's 42-10 win over Webber International back on Sept. 10.
On Saturday against Faulkner, Sitton racked up 181 return yards, including a 59-yard punt return for a touchdown, to earn the weekly accolade.
Sitton's punt return for a TD, his first return touchdown of the season, came on his only punt return of the day and put the Hawks up to stay, 14-7, in the first quarter. He also returned four kickoffs and averaged 30.5 yards per return as Shorter routed the Eagles 52-34 at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.
This season, Sitton leads the Mid-South Conference and the NAIA with a 30.4 punt return average. He leads the conference and ranks No. 3 in the country with a 37.0 kickoff return average and also leads the nation in all-purpose yards, churning up an average of 184.8 yards a game.
Sitton is Shorter's leading receiver with 133 yards and two scores on five catches and also has a score on the ground. He found the end zone on a 54-yard reception against Faulkner and rushed twice for 30 yards.
Sitton and the Hawks (3-1, 1-0 Mid-South) continue Mid-South West Division play this Saturday, Oct. 8 when they return home to Historic Barron Stadium to host Cumberland University (Tenn.). Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
