Michael Peeples named BSN Defensive Player of the Week

ROME -- Shorter sophomore cornerback Michael Peeples has been named a Beyond Sports College Network Defensive Player of the Week the organization announced on Tuesday.
Peeples, a native of Mableton, Ga., recorded two interceptions -- one of which he returned for a touchdown -- in Shorter's 21-14 loss to No. 7-ranked Georgetown College last Saturday.
The 5-foot-5 defensive back picked of Georgetown quarterback Kaelin Ammons in the second quarter and raced 12 yards for a score to pull Shorter within 14-7. He then intercepted Tigers' backup quarterback Cameron Smyth to halt a promising Georgetown drive in the third quarter as Shorter nearly rallied for an upset.
Peeples finished the game with one tackle and a pass break up in addition to his two picks.
On the season, Peeples leads the Hawks with three interceptions and has made seven tackles. He registered his first career interception in Shorter's 29-21 win over Pikeville on Sept. 17.
Peeples and the Hawks open Mid-South Conference West Division play on Saturday, Oct. 1 when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., for a noon ET kickoff against Faulkner University.
