Rome News-Tribune: High stakes for No. 1 Hawks

ROME -- The Shorter University men’s basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, but that fact couldn’t be further away from Hawks’ head coach Chad Warner’s mind right now.

The undefeated Hawks (17-0 overall, 8-0 in the SSAC) have two big matchups in the next few days — including hosting No. 4-ranked Southern Poly tonight at the Winthrop-King Centre at 8 p.m., followed by a game against cross-town rival Berry on Monday — and Warner is concentrating on the games, not the ranking.

“I’m certainly not focusing on it and our players better not be,” said Warner. “What we’re focusing on is going one game at a time..."
