Shorter places 10 harriers on respective All-SSAC squads

NORCROSS, Ga. - Shorter University placed six men and four women on their respective Southern States Athletic Conference Cross Country All-Conference teams as announced by the league on Monday.

The Hawks, who captured a fourth straight SSAC title by scoring a perfect 15 at the conference meet on Nov. 6, saw Paul Chelimo, Doug Kalmbach, Peter Limo, Eliud Ng'etich, Steven Rich and Nicolas Toscan garner All-SSAC accolades.

Chelimo, a two-time NAIA National Cross Country Runner of the Week, took home medalist honors at the SSAC Championships to headline Shorter's sweep of the first six slots. A freshman from Iten, Kenya, Chelimo will lead the Hawks into Vancouver, Wash., this Saturday, Nov. 20 for the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship as they look to improve upon their 18th place team finish one season ago.

Ng'etich, Limo, Toscan and Kalmbach rounded out the top five at the SSAC Championships to earn their respective All-Conference accolades. Rich placed sixth at the conference meet to help the Hawks turn in the most dominating team performance since Shorter scored 15 points to win the 2008 SSAC title.

Shorter's Brenton Widener was named to the SSAC All-Academic squad for the second straight season.

The Lady Hawks just missed out on an at-large berth into the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championship after their runner-up finish at the SSAC Championships, but still managed to put a quartet of athletes on the All-SSAC roster.

Headlining that group is defending NAIA national champion and this year's SSAC medalist Justyna Mudy, who will have a chance to defend her individual title at this year's NAIA National Championship on Saturday in Vancouver, Wash.

Mudy, who won the SSAC title by 59 seconds, was a two-time NAIA National Runner of the Week this season while posting five individual titles.

Joining Mudy on the All-SSAC team was Sarah Massey, Kaitlin Shaw and Shea Spicher.

Massey placed fourth at the SSAC Championships while freshman Spicher crossed the line in sixth. Both will accompany Mudy at the NAIA National Championship.

Shaw placed 10th in Gulfport, Miss., and was also selected to the SSAC All-Academic team along with Massey, Allison Holmes, Courtney Pike and Rachel Tucker.
