Ledrap wins singles title as Shorter competes in Blue Raider Classic

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Shorter's Guillaume Ledrap coasted past top-seed Fabricio Morales of host Lindsey Wilson College in straight sets to claim the singles championship at the 2011 Blue Raider Fall Tennis Classic on Friday, Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 11.
Ledrap posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Morales, his fifth victory of the single-elimination tournament, and completed the event without dropping a set.
Ledrap defeated Lance Freeman 6-4, 6-3 in the second round, topped Gilles Cornelis 6-1, 6-1 in the third round, defeated Evan Sanna 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and outlasted Shorter teammate Romain Ferreira 6-3, 6-3 in the semis to advance to the championship match.
Ferreira won a tough three-setter to advance to the semis against Ledrap. He defeated Lindsey Wilson's Fernando Bogajo 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 after winning his first three matches of the tournament in straight sets.
Shorter's Romain Lefevre advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Morales and Arturo Lifshitz and Colt Kelly, playing in their first fall event for the Hawks, made appearances in the second round.
In men's doubles, Ledrap and Lefevre beat Cumberland (Tenn.) duo Sanna and Antonio Manuel Marcelo 8-5 before falling in the quarterfinals.
On the women's side, Shorter's Iesha Holton and Margot Vetter each advanced to the quarterfinals before bowing out of the championship hunt. Holton defeated Maddy Phillips 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 16 and Vetter cruised past Ashley Williams 6-0, 6-1.
Holton and Vetter teamed up to defeat Morgan Freeman and Katernia Vucina in the quarterfinals of the doubles competition, but fell in the semifinals by an 8-2 margin.
