Shorter University welcomes new Sports Information Director

By James Vallone

ROME -- Shorter University Director of Athletics Bill Peterson announced the hiring  of James Vallone as Sports Information Director. He comes to the Hawk family after recently graduating from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, while also achieving a minor in Management.

“We are really excited about the addition of James to our Sports Information staff," said Peterson. "He brings a wealth of experience to us from the NCAA Division II and I know he is the perfect person for Shorter as we make our move to the next level. In terms of Sports Information, we have established a tradition as one of the best in the country and we certainly believe James can take us even higher. He is a special young man and we are really pleased he decided to join with us.”

Originally enrolled at Georgia Southern University, he left school after one year to pursue a career in the Information Technology industry where he stayed for over a decade. While working in the IT industry he focused on Network Administration and wireless infrastructures.

In January 2010 James returned to college in a full-time capacity while also serving as Director of Operations for an Atlanta based marketing firm. While in the classroom he dedicated himself to studies that resulted in a GPA over 3.6 and Dean’s List for the final three semesters (42 hours at 4.0 GPA).

He is married to Annie, who is a Quality Assurance manager within the Information Technology industry working out of Atlanta.

Senior Associate Athletic Director Matt Green, who spent the previous three years as the university's SID, will be transitioning into the position of Director of Compliance and Media Relations. He will work alongside Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance, Dr. Richard Cowan, to help bolster Shorter's Office of Athletic Compliance as the university continues its transition to NCAA Division II membership.
